Taissier Khalaf - Author Photo

Syrian-Palestinian author and historian born in Quneitra in 1967, currently residing in Istanbul. With over 50 published works spanning three decades, I specialize in historical fiction, research, and travel literature.

My literary journey began in 1993 with "Other Cats: Stories", a collection introduced by Abdelrahman Munif. Since then, I've explored the margins of history through novels like "The Slaughter of the Philosophers" and "The Andalusian Messiah" (2024), which was shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction.

As a researcher and member of the Arab Writers Union, I've contributed extensively to Arab historical studies, including the eight-volume "Encyclopedia of the Journeys of the Arabs and Muslims in Palestine" (2009).

I believe historical topics "radiate more if they are turned into novels," and I'm drawn to mysterious, unexplored, multi-layered characters that exist in the neglected margins of history.
